Terry Hunkapillar, 61, of Broken Bow, passed away February 5, 2010 at Idabel.  He was born February 18, 1948 in McAlester, Oklahoma, the son of Carl and Ernestine Hooser Hunkapillar.  Terry had lived in McCurtain County most of his life and was a 1966 graduate of Broken Bow High School.  He worked in the Forestry Division for Weyerhaeuser Timberland.  Terry had a great love of the outdoors. He enjoyed small ranch operation,  hunting, and telling hunting stories.  He enjoyed driving around in the woods; jokes and laughter.  He loved his sons and his daughter-in-law.  His face would light up at the mere mention of his granddaughter’s name, Abby.  He always had something for her and she loved her Poppa Hunk.  Terry and Nelda Rhoden were united in marriage on August 3, 1970 and they shared 39 years together.  Terry was preceded in death by his father and also by his father-in-law and fother-in-law: Rushing and Lois Rhoden.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Nelda of the home; sons and daughter-in-law: Trent and Stacey Hunkapillar and Darren Hunkapillar all of Durant; granddaughter, Abby Hunkapillar also of Durant;  his mother, Ernestine Hunkapillar of Broken Bow; brother and sister-in-law: Darryl and Beverly Hunkapillar of Broken Bow; sister and brother-in-law: Carlette and Mike Vadnais also of Broken Bow; brother-in-law, Larry Joe Rhoden and wife Jean of South Coffeyville, Oklahoma; sister-in-law, Ruby Crowell and husband Larry of Broken Bow. He is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and many friends.

Visitation hours will be from 1 to 6 pm Sunday, February 7, 2010 at Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home.  Funeral services will be Monday, February 8, 2010 at 2pm at the Broken Bow Church of Christ with Dan Fredman and Bro. Chuck Darby officiating.  Interment will follow at Watson Memorial Cemetery, Oak Hill. He had a unique ability to make you laugh when you really needed it.

His laughter was undeniable and infectious-We will miss his smile and the light in his eyes. Our comfort is knowing that the impression he left will live on in those he knew and loved, and in turn those people will forever remember a great husband, father, grandfather, son, brother,  a good friend and a wonderful man.

Services are under the direction of Bunch-Singleton Funeral Home, Broken Bow.
