Vernie was a member of the Kulli Chito Presbyterian Church in Bethel, OK. He enjoyed meeting people, going to gospel singings and listening to Choctaw Hymns.
Vernie was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Bernice Marlow and Suzanna Battiest; two sons, Vernie Battiest, Jr., and Benedict Williams.
He is survived by two sons, Robert David Battiest of Eagletown, OK, and Kevin Carterbey of Golden, OK; two grandchildren, Natasha Battiest of Holly Creek, Kayla and Gerald Peasha of McAlester, OK; one great-grandson, Dustin; three brothers, Ricky and Sam Battiest of McAlester, OK, Wayne Battiest of Wright City, OK; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Nettie and Cecil Caldwell of Wright City, OK, Mattie and Angel Mendoza of DeQueen, AR; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00p.m Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the Kulli Chito Presbyterian Church, Bethel, OK with interment to follow at the Kulli Chito Cemetery. Rev Cleland Willis will officiate.
